JW Media Player – A Godsend For Flash Streaming

So, you want or need to stream multimediaÂ content from your website; you don't have time or money to figure out or pay someone to figure out how to do what you need; and you need it toÂ look reasonably pro.

Â It's a fantastic, versatile free piece of software you can just plug into any website and use to start streaming content right away!

The best thing however, is that it works really well alongside the Red 5 streaming flash server via the oflaDemo app, and as such completes the package of a free streaming flash solution that looks good and performs well.

Just remember, when following the examples of how to get it to work with at least true streamsÂ (i.e. not progressive downloads)Â give the mediaplayer.swf an absolute url

Are you just wanting to schedule pre-recorded programmes or do it live? Either way, a couple of basic PHP scripts to generate a dynamic playlist for JW Media Player would do the trick. I can help with these if you explain a bit more about how you want the ‘TV station’ to run.

Having found this very cool post I’ve been playing trying to connect the red5 server to the JW Media Player… I can do it no problem with the flv files recorded by the red5 publisher demo, just by passing the correct streamer=rtmp://xx.xxx.xxx.xx/oflaDemo&file=filename&type=rtmp…. but I cannot seem to make it work with live streams, which as far as I can tell should have the same url… have you had any joy with this?

Thanks Chris… it seems that sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t LOL… I was trying to stream from the publisher demo precisely because I wanted to get sound… the same “streamer=rtmp://xx.xxx.xxx.xx/oflaDemo&file=filename&type=rtmp” DOES work for live streams off the publisher demo but not consistently… sometimes just seems to freeze… ah well… on we go
