I live and breathe the internet, new technology, web application development, server management, search engine optimisation and internet marketing in general.

I am also passionate and experienced in managing all manner of web projects from conception to delivery, and beyond.

In short I am a proficient web operations manager and have a wealth of development and other technical skills to back that up. So what can I do for you?

Operations Consultancy

I have worked in a Senior capacity for award winning charities, fast paced internet start-ups, and large multi-national corporations and have been involved in the management of associated agencies contracted to work for those organisations.

As a result I have amassed a wealth of operational experience which can be invaluable to small/medium digital media (web) agencies and start-ups who are keen to avoid mistakes and/or optimise their output or development processes.

Therefore I offer an operations consultancy to companies who feel that help in this area might benefit them.

My service is tailored to suit each individual business, and can take the form of anything from a full audit of current operational or development processes and procedures, to dealing with the solution of a single fine grained issue that a company faces.

Resolving issues aside, validation of exiting methods and processes can be just as valuable and my service can also be employed from that angle.

Specification, Technical Client Side Interaction and Pitch-work

Do you need help writing and budgeting for an effective technical specification?

All of these are common issues experienced by small digital agencies and startups and can be very influential in the overall success of a project for both the client and the agency.

Having worked extensively on both sides of the fence in these areas I am able to offer a service which guides businesses facing these issues or concerns through the process for particular projects, as well as offering help and advice on a more holistic level assisting future projects.

Problem Solving and Solution Validation

A common issue faced by small technical departments and the agencies surrounding them is a blinkered view of the tools, processes and techniques they have available to them to solve particular problems in the production of a piece of work for a client.

As a skilled technical problem solver and mediator, I am able to effectively enter a development team examine a problem with them and help determine the best solution to it within their time and skills remit, or otherwise find an external solution which will deliver on time as appropriate.

In this capacity I am also able to act as an external validator of ideas, coming at the project afresh and verifying if a course of action is an appropriate solution to a particular problem or methods of development for a project. This external validation of ideas can save thousands in lost time and unnecessary development, as well as boosting the morale of smaller technical departments in terms of validating that what they're trying to achieve is in fact possible.

Development

Though now a much more operations focused individual I remain a skilled object oriented PHP developer and am quite happy to work in that arena on interesting projects (you might also be surprised at what I regard as an interesting project!).

As you may have seen from my portfolio I run a various websites of my own all which incur ongoing development and as such I am never out of the loop on this front.

My specialities lie in web services, data-mining, data heavy web applications and re-engineering of outdated code into more manageable systems using various software design patterns and processes, but I'm just as happy building the odd widget here and there if it's something I've not tackled before!

Server Administration

I have been administering Linux and FreeBSD servers in production and development environments for over 10 years now and consider myself a proficient server administrator.

Over the last couple of years I have also expanded my skills out from the management of standard dedicated boxes hosted in various data centres, to designing and running highly available cloud based infrastructures on Amazon and Rack Space cloud services.

I have experience in building novel highly available, highly efficient web server environments designed to take both minimal traffic and high burst or high continuous traffic at minimal cost.

I can provide references in each of these areas as required, and do not take on anything that which I am not 100% confident I can deliver on (frankly I don't need the stress of being in that situation and neither do you!).
